Center for Applied Gaming and Media Arts
Mission Statement
The mission of the Center for Applied Gaming and Media Arts (CAGMA) at Southern
Polytechnic State University (SPSU) is to bring together a diverse collection of
teachers and researchers to create game and media applications for enhancing
K-16 learning, corporate training, entertainment, and public policy advocacy.
The center also provides a venue in which undergraduate and graduate game
and media projects can develop into commercially viable products.
To achieve this mission, the following will be accomplished:
- Seek grants and develop partnerships with local
K-12 schools to support research in utilizing gaming and media to
enhance learning
- Host events and tours to increase awareness of the utility of games and media and the
activities occurring at SPSU and the CAGMA in this field
- Serve as a conduit between SPSU talent and
business partners to realize commercial
games and other media projects as extensions of student and faculty projects
- Work with local, state, and national agencies to
support public policy advocacy via
gaming and media development
Center Goals and Objectives
- To conduct research and development in applied gaming and media arts to enhance
business and education
CAGMA will coordinate grant writing and research projects
that utilize game design and development and media arts production to enhance
corporate training and STEM (and other subject) learning in K-12 education. Research will leverage aesthetic and motivation theory as primary drivers
to enhancing learning and retention.
- Expand the
visibility of SPSU and the University System of Georgia (USG) in the field
of game design and development and media art.
CAGMA projects will result in an increased presence of SPSU
and the USG within the growing field of applied gaming and media arts. This will occur via local press coverage as well as regional, national,
and international journals and academic conference presentations and
publications.
- Collaborate with corporate and educational partners through research and
consulting projects.
CAGMA will actively seek partners with whom we can apply
game and media theory into practical applications that solve real-world
educational and corporate training problems. These projects form the foundation with which the center is sustained and
realizes much of its mission.
